Speaking of Meteors and Comets, people enjoyed the Miracle from NOVEMBER 14th to 20th 1998. It's not over... COMETS AND METEORS ARE NOT FINISHED WITH THE EARTH...

The Geminid meteors peak around December 13-14-15.
This year the moon is favorable: last quarter moon
only rises late in the night, long after midnight.
You don't have to wait till 3-4 a.m. to view the Geminids,
they are well visible already from 10 p.m. on as Gemini is rising early. In normal years, when there's no Leonid or Giacobinid storm, the Geminids are the best meteor shower of the year ! Better than the August Perseids ! Many bright meteors can be seen. They don't originate from a comet, but from an asteroid. Therefore the meteorids have more denser mass and thus often burn brightly and leave lots of persistant trains. They are an easy target for photos. Watch out both nights of December 13-14 and 14-15. |
